The Source Young People's Charity is based in Aldershot. We want to see vulnerable young people in Aldershot and surrounding areas thriving, hopeful and living a fulfilled life. Our mission is to serve the local community by providing counselling, mentoring, and creative group support to local young people struggling with their mental health and wellbeing. Our aim is to help them to live healthy and fulfilled lives through increased resilience, confidence, and self-esteem

We are looking for mentors who can commit up to 4 hours a week in the evenings to mentor a young person, and also to be available for supervision with our mentoring coordinators.

Role Responsibilities

The role responsibilities include: providing weekly sessions in our office or the community to help support young people develop, building confidence, increasing resilience and improving self-esteem. Support can be short-term, or longer based on the needs of young people.

As a mentor you would have the privilege of:

  • Seeing a young person’s life transformed
  • Supporting them to build confidence, resilience and positive self-esteem
  • Help to develop essential life skills
  • Assist young people to make informed choice
  • Provide emotional support where young people are facing difficulties

NB: You need to be able to work with our full age range, which is 13 to 25 years


TASKS

  • To be committed to the values of The Source and share in our mission to support young people to transform their lives.
  •  To participate in ongoing training as required, online and in the office.
  •  To attend regular supervision. 
  •  To be a source of encouragement.
  •  To keep records as required.
  •  To adhere to the policies and practice of The Source. In particular to safeguard the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults to prevent abuse.
  •  To complete expense sheets and submit these in the allotted time frames.


Skills

  • Mentors need to have a background in youth/mental health work or be able to clearly state how they have the suitable skills and attributes to work with young people in need.

Availability Details

We are looking for volunteers who are available on Mondays or Tuesdays from 4 - 7pm. You will also need to attend supervision and have weekly catch-ups with your coordinator after sessions. In addition, you will have to write notes as required.
