Code Club Leader

Love computers? Enjoy working with children? Fleet Library is planning to set up a Code Club for a small group of children aged 9-13 and we are looking for a volunteer to lead it!

Code Club supports a nationwide network of volunteers and educators who run free coding clubs where young people build and share their ideas, learning along the way. The projects are easy to follow, step-by-step guides which help young people learn Scratch, HTML & CSS, and Python by making games, animations, and websites. They gradually introduce coding concepts to allow young people to build their knowledge incrementally, which also means there’s no need for the adult running the session to be a computing expert.

We are looking to for a volunteer who is confident working with small groups of children (around ten at a time) and who would be interested in leading a club based at Fleet library. Whilst you need to be computer literate, you don’t need to have coding knowledge to run a club. Using the available step-by-step project guides is a great way to learn skills and build coding confidence for both you and your students! Code Club also offer a free online training course which takes around 3-4 hours to complete  - this is optional but most club leaders have found it useful.

The volunteer will be supported by library staff and also other more 'junior' volunteers.

Must be Computer-literate and have an interest in coding.

Needs to be confident working with groups of children.

Good communication skills are essential.

A friendly and approachable manner.

Ability to work with other volunteers (we are also looking for additional volunteers to help and assist the club leader).

Must be willing to undergo the library induction.
