When a Hampshire child is permanently excluded from school the family is offered support to enable them to understand the process and their rights and have an opportunity to express their views.
The role requires an initial meeting in the families home or via a telephone conversation to complete a questionnaire. Further support maybe required depending on the needs of the family which could include guiding the family through and understanding the school packs, supporting them at the Governors Pupil Disciplinary Committee and potentially attending an Independent Review Panel with the family.
The volunteer will
- Attend 2 days induction training and an additional half day with the Inclusion team.
- Receive details from the Volunteer Co-ordinator about the exclusion and the required timescales for the meeting
- Contact the family to arrange a meeting
- Meet with the child/family and guide them through the exclusion process and the child's rights
- Submit the questionnaire to the Innovations Team
Hampshire County Council will
- Offer training relevant to the role
- Provide you with ongoing, high quality and timely support.
- Pay mileage subject to criteria being met (evidence of business insurance and valid MOT)
The volunteering opportunity is subject satisfactory completion of training
Skills
Training and support will be provided therefore previous experience is not essential. We are seeking volunteers who feel able to:
Provide good communication and listening skills
Remain calm and impartial when dealing with families
Record accurate and timely information.
Respect differing views of individuals and work in a non judgmental way.
Respect confidentiality and the agreed information sharing process.
Have the confidence to report concerns to their Volunteer Coordinator.

Availability Details
Because these are one-off pieces of work, the time commitment for this opportunity is flexible volunteers can opt to give a couple of hours as and when they are available. If the family requires additional support through the exclusion process, the volunteer may be asked to visit again, for a follow up piece of work.
