Home-Start Hampshire is small local charity providing support and friendship for families who are going through challenging times when their children are young.
Our volunteers provide practical support and a listening ear to families. This service is free, non-judgemental and confidential. We offer thorough preparation and support, and on-going opportunities for self-development.
Home-Start has been supporting families in the boroughs of Rushmoor & Hart since 2013 and has supported over 70 families.
We are currently looking for volunteers with parenting experience to attend our 'Preparation Course' starting 30th October 2018 at Quetta Park Community Hall in Church Crookham. Course times will be 9:30am to 2:30pm one day a week for 6 weeks .
Once trained our volunteers are matched with a family in need and visit them once a week to help build confidence, provide practical and emotional support and reassurance. Families may need some extra support for a multitude of reasons - a parent or child may have an illness, post natal depression, family bereavement, spouse in the army, multiple births or disabilities.
Our co-ordinator will get to know you during the 'preparation course' and match you closely with a family's needs. A mutually convenient time is made to visit the family, with the co-ordinator and then further visits are made between the volunteer and the family. Volunteers can also help with our family support groups instead of home-visiting if they prefer.
Families are referred to us from Health Visitors, GP's or can self refer.
Parenting experience is essential, patience, understanding, compassion and some spare time! Volunteers must be 18+ but ideally we are looking for more 'mature' volunteers.
