The Surrey Libraries Language Groups aim to provide an opportunity for
stimulating, varied and informal conversation between people, in a language
other than their own (primary) language. The Language Group Facilitator will
support and encourage people through providing initial conversation topics
and fostering a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
Groups will initially run for a 6 month period. Meetings will be monthly.
Maximum group size is 10 people.
Surrey Libraries ideally require two facilitators for each language group
In this role, you will be helping to host a regular meeting. Groups are normally
run on a drop-in basis and need to be open to new members, capacity
allowing. The groups are run on behalf of the Library Service and as such, you
will be representing Surrey Libraries and working closely with local staff.
Applicants for this role should be:
Friendly and approachable
Empathic and discreet, non-judgmental and open-minded.
Able to deal diplomatically with differences of opinion and be able to steer a
conversation tactfully so that everyone has the chance to speak.
Be able to spend time researching topics for conversation before each
Reliable and able to commit to the project for a specified period (initially the
6 month trial).
