Getting involved with planning for your area’s future is a fantastic way to support Hampshire’s countryside and your community. It is a meaningful role and very rewarding.
Our planning volunteers are at the coalface of our mission to protect the countryside. With the support of our expert team and district groups, they help shape 'Local Plans' and respond to planning applications, using the planning system to achieve the best possible outcomes for our environment and communities.
We are looking for people to join their district group and work with the team to help shape the future of their area. Even if you have no experience of the planning system, we will provide comprehensive induction and training.
The role may involve:
Investigating planning applications which have a significant impact upon the countryside and help us to influence their outcome.
Visits local planning offices to look at plans and record details.
Reviews plans, applications and other consultations on the internet.
Visiting sites of interest and recording details.
Liaises with parish councils, district councils and other conservation bodies.
As your skills develop, you will be encouraged and supported to:
Draft letters to the local planning authority.
Research planning policy and best practice.
Assist in the preparation of responses to wider consultations, including planning appeals.
Contribute to our Policy and Planning Group and assist CPRE Hampshire in planning research.
We are looking for people who meet most of these qualities:
An interest in investigative work with an eye for detail.
Good communication skills – written and verbal.
Well organised, reliable and committed.
A passion for our beautiful Hampshire countryside.
Can attend meetings of the district group locally.
