We are a charity that helps people live free from violence, abuse and exploitation. We are looking for volunteer mentors to support our LINX programme. LINX is designed to help young people reduce antisocial and challenging behaviour as well as improving self esteem and increasing empathy.
You will meet with a young person once a week for an hour, for up to six months,to listen, provide encouragement and support and develop a positive relationship with that young person. You will support and guide them to identify individual goals and work with them to achieve their goals, particularly in relation to education, alcohol/drug abuse, employment, sexual responsibility and relationships, criminal activity, family and peer relationships and personal well-being.
Accurate records will need to be completed and maintained on the young person being supported including records of all contact and any safeguarding concerns. You will need to be a car driver and able to commit to a minimum of six months.
Ideally you will have experience of working with young people experiencing domestic violence or any other form of abuse.
A clear understanding of issues facing young people and how to engage/motivate challenging young people.
Ability to work creatively with young people who are vulnerable, hard to reach or difficult to engage.
Excellent verbal, written and IT communication skills.
Good time management and self-organisation skills.
