Minibus Drivers

We are looking for reliable and punctual volunteers to drive our minibus to provide transport for service users to and from activities, meetings and events. You will be providing the service as part of a team and according to a co-ordinated rota.

The key responsibilities of the role –

Keep a record of mileage incurred.

Make sure that all passengers wear seatbelts at all times

Inform helping hands for the blind as soon as possible if you have an accident or if someone becomes ill/is injured in the vehicle.

If you breakdown call helping hands office who will suggest alternative arrangements.

Obtain information from the helping hands office regarding the names, address and any accompanying passengers.

Transporting the service users to the required destination at the agreed time.

Provide door to door service including guiding clients to and from the vehicle, warmly greeting the passengers and make them feel welcome and comfortable.

Before driving off, ensure that the passengers are comfortable and secure in the vehicle.

To report any matter of concern to helping hands office.

To maintain confidentiality regarding information relating to service users and staff.


You will be given Midas training and certification for driving a minibus.

You will be given induction training into the various aspects of the work. You will receive ongoing training and peer support at regular Volunteer meetings.

Skills

We are looking for volunteers who have the following skills -

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work without close supervision.

A reliable, confident, enthusiastic and responsible individual, with good interpersonal skills.

A good team player.

Interested in working with people who have a variety of abilities.

Able to demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of the needs of people who have sight loss.

A caring, sympathetic, sensitive manner and a non-judgemental approach.
