Thanks to a lot of effort and the wonderful support we receive locally, Read Easy Basingstoke is growing. Our initial scheme, Turning Pages, offers free, 1:1 coaching for adults who struggle to read and our coaches and readers have been working so hard that we are now ready to set up the next phase - Moving Ahead.
We are looking for a Moving Ahead Coordinator to join us - this is a voluntary role which would suit someone with previous experience in education and is a great chance to be in at the beginning of this exciting project. In this phase, a programme is devised for each learner by their coach to consolidate the reading skills learned and to work on writing, grammar and individual goals, guided and supported by the Coordinator.
The Moving Ahead Coordinator is responsible for meeting coaches and readers, assessing their aims and supporting them throughout this next stage with the backing of the other members of the team.
Empathy - the transition into this much more self-motivated stage can be quite daunting for both learners and coaches.
Enthusiasm - learners and coaches need encouragement from time to time.
Organisation - there are sometimes many balls in the air so organisational skills are vital.
Pro-active - thinking outside of the box is needed to meet the needs of learners and coaches.
Experience in education is a big advantage for this stage.
Ability to work with other agencies as some learners will move towards further education.
