This is a great opportunity if you love animals (particularly dog walking) and enjoy socialising and meeting new friends.
As a volunteer you would be matched with a pet owner to look after their animal which in most cases would be a cat or dog. You would visit them in their home and play with the pet, dog walk or feed a cat. The main tasks are to keep the animal healthy, which helps the owner feel at ease because they can't carry out the physical side of owning a pet anymore.
In many cases the animal is a companion animal which plays a big part in keeping the elderly in their home and gives them a sense of purpose.
Research has shown that animals help with depression, helps with verbal aggression that may come with dementia. Owning fish can even help the elderly to increase nutritional intake.
To allow you to meet the other volunteers, Pet Care & Partners have two social events a year. You'll also benefit from discounts at restaurants, retail outlets and holiday companies yo thank you for your commitment. Come and join us and have fun at the same time.
