Could you spare a couple of hours a week to enrich the life of an elderly vulnerable person?
You could spend it chatting in their home, helping with a few chores or, for instance, going outfor a walk. You could be just doing their shopping or taking them to the doctors, or just regular phone support and check-in calls. It is up to you.
Our volunteers engage with elderly vulnerable members of our community, who are having difficulty in coping with everyday life, and who have become lonely and isolated from friends and family, if indeed they have any. You may be the only person they see week to week, but any carers they do have will only help with the most basic care. These elderly people may be lacking social contact, and not receiving the little bits of assistance that an able-bodied person would give. They need you!
As a service we take referrals from across the community (e.g. GP’s), and offer them to you as engagements. We provide training and support throughout your engagement. We provide advice and signposting to other services. We try to fill the yawning gap between the obvious need and the provision made by the state. Do you see the need? We need you to join us!
