If you enjoy driving and would like to support people with a learning disability; this could be the volunteering role for you.
Mulberry Lodge is a new supported living service situated in Winklebury, Basingstoke. Over the coming weeks and months six people we support (tenants) who have complex disabilities and health needs will be living at Mulberry Lodge.
We are looking to recruit volunteer drivers to initially support one of the tenants to access the community or travel to their day centre in the tenant’s own vehicle.
We need volunteer drivers who can be available as soon as possible (pending references and DBS checks) to drive a person we support to their day service Wednesday to Friday every week with a Mencap support worker present during the journey.
In the near future more tenants will move in to Mulberry Lodge and each tenant will have their own vehicle. They too will need driver support to access leisure activities, shopping trips, daytime activities and medical appointments – again this will be with Mencap support workers present during the journeys.
Our aim is to recruit a small pool of volunteer drivers to support our tenants to gain access to the wider community.
If you can provide driver support to medical appointments and access to the community, the role is likely to involve some evenings and weekends.
You will help to make a difference to peoples' lives by helping them to take part in new activities, and providing companionship and fun.
To be a Volunteer Driver you need to:
Be over 21 years of age and have at least two years’ worth of driving experience
Have a full driving license for automatic vehicles
