The Children and Young People Department is an enthusiastic team facilitating a variety of different programmes to children and young people. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are seeking volunteers who have the time, skills and enthusiasm to provide support, guidance and mentorship in both rewarding and challenging environments.
Fire Cadets is a nationally recognised educational programme available to young people aged 13 - 17. The Programme is delivered from various local fire stations where young people in groups of 15 - 20 attend one evening a week for up to three hours.
The Programme gives them an insight into working within the uniformed service as well as encouraging personal and social development and promoting self-discipline, teamwork, problem solving, social action and citizenship skills.
The Programme is designed in modules and is aimed at giving the cadets the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised BTEC Level 2 Award in Fire and Rescue Services in the community. Your role will be to lead and instruct the delivery of the Programme, organise and provide administrative support to the Cadets and your colleagues, and communicating with the Fire Cadet Team Leader.
To facilitate and deliver the Cadet programme and qualification as per the provided training and lesson plans.
To exercise the duty of care for those young people whilst taking part in Fire Cadets activities.
To adhere to and uphold the policies and procedures provided by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service at all times.
Maintain personal responsibility for Data Protection - collection, recording, information sharing, reviews, retention and disposal of information in compliance with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service policies and legislation on the management of information.
To attend and contribute to volunteer group information sessions, training and review meetings arranged at mutually convenient times
Skills
Interest in helping young people
An ability to communicate with different types of people
Good organisational and administrative skills would be beneficial, but not essential.

Availability Details
Commit to regularly attend the cadet unit during school term times only. Volunteers will be rostered within each unit as per your availability and therefore you do not have to attend every week, but a regular commitment is required. Up to three hours per week and occasional weekend activities
