Welcome Guide

Welcome Guides are bursting with helpful info - they know what’s going on in the gardens, interesting facts about the house as well as how to get to the tea-rooms! They tell visitors about the work we’re doing to look after The Vyne, the history and stories that make it special.

Welcome Guides provide a warm welcome for all visitors, helping them to explore and learn more about the Vyne so that they have an enjoyable and memorable visit.  You will also play a role in conservation and health and safety by keeping an eye on wear and tear in the garden, and being aware of any access issues/hazards.

What’s in it for you?

Watch buds opening, and autumn leaves changing colour

Get to know the garden by heart and share your experience with visitors

Have great conversations with people from all over the world

Be part of a varied and enthusiastic team and make some new friends

Get to see the work of The Vyne gardeners and share in their passion

What’s involved?

Providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors as the public face of the National Trust

Learning about everything that is on offer at the Vyne so you can answer any questions and assist/encourage visitors to make the best of their day

Giving introductory talks/guided tours of the garden for groups

Helping people if they ask, and thinking about the best routes around the garden especially for disabled people and families

Understand what the garden team are working on including any projects that are happening so that you can pass information on to visitors

Keeping an eye on any areas of the garden that might be suffering wear and tear and reporting to the garden team

Helping visitors understand why we need to take care of special places and, if needs be, raising any concerns you have with staff

This role will suit you if you are -

Someone who loves being around people – you’ll meet a lot each day!

Cheerful even when there’s a nip in the air
