Basingstoke Gateway Award Project (GAP) requires volunteers to support the weekly running of the club.
GAP is a social, leisure and life-skills initiative set up in 2001 for young people aged 16+ with learning difficulties or disabilities. It offers its members a chance to learn and develop valuable life skills by taking part in a range of different projects and activities that are accredited by the Gateway Award Scheme which is afflicted to Mencap.
All members are encouraged to set themselves new challenges, learn new skills, gain confidence and make new friends through exposure to and participation in a wide range of structured activities. Members work towards bronze, silver or gold awards in a safe, friendly and encouraging environment.
Support members with their activities during the weekly sessions which can include; arts and crafts, sports and trips out within the community.
Support members with individual needs
To bring enthusiasm, encouragement and enjoyment to the club.
Support the safe running of the club by following policy and procedures,
To work alongside a team of volunteers led by a youth leader.
Attend training when required.
If available, to support day trips and residential weekends.
Somebody who has experience of working with people or children with
learning difficulties or disabilities either through paid work or volunteering.

When can I volunteer?
Each GAP session runs for 2 hours per evening, 7-9pm. Volunteers can attend weekly, fortnightly or monthly as long as there is reliability and consistency.
