Launched in April 2014 FareShare Southern Central rescues surplus food which would otherwise go to waste and redistributes it to charities and community groups working with vulnerable people. We tackle two problems of our time: food poverty and surplus food.
We are a very busy depot with deliveries of food arriving daily and four vans going out each day to deliver food to our charity partners. These include food banks, breakfast clubs, women refuges, schools, children centres, hostels, soup kitchens and projects support men and women trafficked into the UK, vulnerable young people and those living with addictions, mental health, learning disabilities and AIDS/HIV.
Every week we distribute around 15 tonnes of food. The food we receive is safe to eat but is excess to requirements due to over ordering or over production. The food maybe coming close to the best before date or may not have passed the strict quality control.
