The Community Event Volunteer plays a crucial role as the face of the station, helping to increase our visibility, engage with listeners, and promote our mission at various local festivals, fairs, public broadcasts, and station-led events. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic, friendly individual who loves meeting people and representing a valued local cause.
Key Responsibilities
• Event Representation: Enthusiastically represent Basingstoke Community Radio at public events, acting as a friendly and knowledgeable ambassador for the station.
• Listener Engagement: Interact with the public, answer questions about the station, its programming, and how to listen (online, DAB+, smart speakers, etc.).
• Promotional Activities: Distribute promotional materials (leaflets, stickers, merchandise, etc.), encourage sign-ups to mailing lists, and promote upcoming shows or community initiatives.
• Mobile Studio Support: Assist with the setup, smooth running, and packing down of the BCR mobile studio or information stand at events. This may involve light lifting and following instructions for layout.
• Fundraising/Membership: Encourage new listeners and potential new members/volunteers, and assist with simple fundraising activities at events (e.g., merchandise sales, raffle ticket sales).
• Logistical Support: Help the Events Team with various tasks on the day, such as setting up tables, managing queues, or directing visitors.
Skills
Excellent Communication & Interpersonal Skills: A friendly, outgoing personality with the confidence to approach and talk to members of the public.
Passion for the Community: A genuine interest in Basingstoke and a commitment to the mission of Basingstoke Community Radio.
Reliability: Punctual and able to commit to scheduled shifts.
Team Player: Ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a volunteer and staff team.
Flexibility: Willingness to work in various event environments, which may be busy, noisy, and potentially outdoors in different weather conditions.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for periods and potentially assist with light setup/pack-down of equipment.
Training will be discussed and arranged as required.

This role is flexible and could be carried out from home, there will be a requirement for weekend working for events scheduled at the weekend.
