Do you have an an hour in your day to suit you and help us to relieve isolation among people who find it difficult to leave their homes?
If you regularly find yourself with a little time to spare this would be a great opportunity for you.
Calls & Visits are looking for home-based volunteers to be the first point of contact to respond to phone messages, look at emails and connect on Facebook by directing these enquiries to one of the Steering Group available by phone, to give advice where necessary.
Training will be provided.
You would join a duty rota which can be worked around volunteer needs, e.g. one week on duty per month, or one day per week at an hour per day. You would check once per day on the messages and then respond. Currently we only get one or two requests. The timing can be flexible (so long as there is a response within 24 hours of the query).
All of these tasks can be carried out at home. You would be included in regular Zoom meetings with other volunteers, progressing to physical meetings/socials as those become more common. If you prefer company during volunteer hours there is an option to work alongside the Group Leader in a home office which could be discussed. (The home office is big enough to sit socially distanced, it used to be a Dining Room.)

When can I volunteer?
At the moment there is only one Duty Officer so our first volunteers would have their pick of hours. There is already someone who will cover for the current Duty Officer during holidays or sickness, this has the potential to continue.
