Do you like walking? Maybe with time for a chat and a nice cuppa at the end?
Hart Health Walks offers a weekly programme of walks in 7 different locations across Hart District. Our volunteer Walk Leaders lead and back mark each walk to ensure that these are run safely for the enjoyment of all. In a recent survey, 92% of our regular walkers said that Hart Health Walks helped them to maintain or improve their level of fitness, and 89% said our walks helped them stay socially connected.
Walk leaders are needed to:
- Ensure walks are run safely by leading and back-marking on pre-agreed routes. The long walks are around 50-60 minutes and shorter walks around 30-40 minutes for those less able, or who would like a slower pace.
- Welcome all walkers and ensure that registration and attendance paperwork is completed.
- Be part of a team of volunteers who share the responsibility across the year.
- Share their enjoyment of walking and seeing some of the lovely open spaces we have in Hart District.
We provide training on how to lead a walk as well as cards to help you on the day and route guides.
If you’ve not been on a Hart Health Walk already, we do encourage you to pop along to one of the walks and get a feel for the experience. You’ll then be able to see exactly what the leader does on the day and have a chat with them about what’s involved.
Skills
Volunteers should:
- Enjoy walking and the benefits associated with it.
- Have good communication and organisational skills.
- Be friendly, approachable and comfortable in a group to make the walk a "social occasion".
- Be reliable and punctual.
- Have some knowledge of their local area.
Volunteers will need to attend a Hart Voluntary Action information session and then shadow and lead or back mark a walk to complete their induction.
Walk leaders needed for all current locations: Blackwater, Hook, Crookham Village, Fleet, Yateley, Odiham and Hartley Wintney, including setting up new short walks. If you would be interested in setting up a Health Walk in a different Hart location, known to you, then do get in touch.
