Health Walk Leaders (Wellesley Woodlands)

Do you enjoy getting outdoors in your local area and meeting new people? If so, being a Volunteer Health Walk Leader could be for you!

We are looking for volunteers to help lead our health walk programme which runs every Friday.

These health walks take place within Wellesley Woodlands to help local people connect with our fantastic green space, and generally last about one hour. You will be trained and supervised before delivering your own health walks in pairs, so you will never be volunteering alone. Ideally, you will be able to commit to regular walks, rotating with other volunteers. Walks are weekly and we aim to issue the leaders rota at least once month in advance to aid planning.

Each successful volunteer will receive a health walk welcome pack to facilitate their role, including a branded hi-vis jacket, name badge and mini first aid kit. Once you are signed off to deliver walks, we hope that you might like to make these a regular feature in your monthly schedule as you connect more with regular attendees.

Whether you enjoy being outdoors and taking in the environment, learning about the heritage, or just enjoy meeting people this role will be rewarding and provide you the opportunity to feel connected with your green space and local community. If you wish the role can be extended to help with other community engagement events in the area.

Skills

The role requires you to be a people person and a leader, who is not afraid to get stuck in and talk to people of all ages and backgrounds. Aldershot is a diverse community and we want to create an inclusive group where all are welcome. No physical assessment is required for the role - if you can walk for an hour at a gentle pace then that is sufficient.

We are looking for the following qualities:

  • A good team player
  • Works on own initiative
  • Reliable and focused
  • Approachable and friendly
  • Flexible availability
  • Willing to volunteer in all weathers
