Looking for a flexible volunteer role that still makes a difference? Drive? Interested.... have a look below and if you think you could help we'd love to hear from you.
A young carer is someone under 18 who helps look after, or whose life is significantly affected by, a family member is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition or an addiction. They often take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult.
Through our term time Young Carers clubs we are able to offer emotional/social/peer support, practical help and respite care to around 130 young carers living across Hart & Rushmoor. However transporting them to and from the clubs often proves a massive barrier as many of them do not have access to the 'taxi service of mum & dad' that so many of us living in the area take for granted.
Whilst we offer weekly transport via a mini-bus and regular team of volunteer drivers we are occasionally in need of a little extra help if a driver is on holiday or during the school holidays when we run additional activities. Therefore we are on the hunt for volunteers to join a team of 'pool' drivers who we can call on OCCASIONALLY to see if they could help with a single journey either to or from the club/activity (no return trips as we understand no one wants to hang around waiting and 'kick and drop' is far more appealing!).
We've popped in our session times below and in addition our holiday activities run during the day so even if it's just the odd day once or twice a year it all still helps....
• Monday from 6.30-8.30pm.
• Tuesday from 5.30-7.30pm.
• Every other Thursday from 6.30-8.30pm.
Volunteers can do either journey (both if you're keen) and would be picking up just one or two young people who normally sit looking at their mobiles!
Whilst our club is based in Farnborough (near Farnborough sixth form college) we have young carers attending from Aldershot, Blackwater, Church Crookham, Crondall, Farnborough, Fleet, Hartley Wintney, Hook, Odiham and Yateley - so we are looking for volunteers from almost everywhere!
Routes are arranged so that drivers are transporting young carers
living in the same area, and pick ups would be from around 5.30pm on Monday and
Thursday and 4.30pm on Tuesday.
Our volunteers are part of a really special team who make a real difference to young carers in the area...
Reliable and happy to work as part of a team.

When can I volunteer?
This is a really flexible role and we anticipate just one or two trips every couple of months. Our clubs run on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings during term time - however as we also run activities during the school holidays we are keen to have a bank of drivers who could also help occasionally during the week.
